Spelling Magic includes games to support the phonetic spelling of CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words containing short vowels.
 
To start, you can choose from three letter words (CVC) containing any short vowel or double letter (ll, ss etc) ending or a random mixture of these.
 
Word Building
A picture is shown and the letters of the word are scattered. Consonants are coloured red and vowels are blue. The child needs to drag the letters down into the boxes to spell the words.
 
Moveable Alphabet
A picture is shown and the letters of the alphabet appear at the top of the screen. Consonants are coloured red and vowels are blue. The child needs find the correct letters from the alphabet to drag the letters down into the boxes to spell the sounds in the words.
 
Pronunciation: The pronunciations are mostly clear and accurate. For children outside of North America, the spelling of mum as mom might be confusing.
 
Level: All words are shown as single words.
 
Vocabulary: There are some obscure words such as sod, ref, kit (first aid kit), hid (shows a racoon in a hole), job (boy digging in the snow), tub (bath)
 
Phonics:  These are short vowel words only.
 
Letter order: Words can be spelled in any order.
 
Case: Lower case is used throughout the app.

SPELLING MAGIC 1 focuses on CVC (consonant - vowel - consonant) words, such as cat, box and pig. In the first part of the app, the words are categorized by middle vowel sounds. In the second part of the app, the words are sorted by categories rather than by vowel sound.

SPELLING MAGIC 1 has over 245 words to interest your child, and help them learn how to build CVC words and help them with their blending and segmenting skills.

The DELUXE version gives several choices in the options menu including;
Two types of voices
Three types of fonts
Two letter color styles
A special feature to connect the letters together.
Over 185 additional words from the free version.

This app focuses on the skill of learning to build words with three phonemes using short vowel words. This app can also help your child learn the sounds of the alphabet. This app indirectly teaches the essential reading skill of segmenting as well. Two levels of challenge are available. 

The first part of the app has a limited alphabet for building words. 

The second part of this app has the entire alphabet available for building words. 

Please note that the purpose of this app is to provide many opportunities for practicing building CVC words. On account of this, there are words in this app that are not in the everyday vocabulary of the young learners using this app. Use this as an opportunity to build vocabulary. The pictures when tapped will always say the sound of the word that the app is asking user to build.
