ABC Phonics Rhyming Words provides a terrific game to help children identify words that rhyme. This is a visual rhyming task.

Smiling fruit characters float calming on the screen. Each piece of fruit has a word. The child taps on the rhyming pair to make a match. There are usually two pairs of fruit on each page. The instructions are spoken and the child can hear the word when they touch the fruit.

There are plenty of motivators built in to this app. This child collects jewels to win a game. In the game they can draw and make the screen sparkly.

I wish the words were in lower case as this is more suitable for younger children. Some children with visual figure-ground challenges might find reading the words written on the fruit a little tricky. The pace of this game is slow. The fruit slowly disappear when they are matched. This slow pace may suit some children and frustrate others.

You can turn off the background music.

There is also a lite version available.

ABC Phonics Rhyming Words Plus includes long vowels.
