Baby Learns Simple Objects in an incredibly cute app for early vocabulary.

There are four scenes, a playground, farm, bedroom and kitchen which are use for two activities:

Learn: The child taps on the objects to hear it said. The child is rewarded with animation on some of the objects.

Play: This is a vocabulary comprehension task. You can choose your own character to give the instructions. The child is asked by the character to "Find the following objects..". However, you can record your own instruction.

One of the best features of this app is that you can record your own (or the child's) voice on to all of the objects, instructions and feedback. This is great too because you can change the name of the vocabulary item if you like. For example, I changed pyramid to blocks. I also really liked changing the feedback when incorrect. In the app the voice was a little punitive saying "no" when incorrect. I could change this to "good try, try again".

The suitability of this app for a child would depend on their ability to find small objects in a busy visual screen. One small thing - I wish they would take the word 'baby' out of the title. This is a game for toddlers, many of whom don't like to be thought of as babies.

This is one app in a series with similar content:

Domain Score Details
Learning Connection 4
This wonderful app allows to record your voice on all items. This customises this app to suit your child. The gorgeous drawings and fun rewards make this a winner for teaching vocabulary and working on vocabulary comprehension.
Authenticity 2
The child shows their understanding of vocabulary by tapping on the object named.
Feedback 2
When the child is correct they hear "correct" or "perfect". When incorrect, they hear "no" and the avatar shakes it's head. I wish there were some hints to help. Perhaps the correct object could flash or enlarge.
Differentiation 4
There are two voices, American English and French. You can turn off the music and the noises in the background of the scenes.
User Friendliness 4
This is a very easy app for young children to play.
Motivation 4
The child wins an award called a Bebeka (a little alien animal) after 5 correct answers. These are added to a scene where the child can move around to play with them. The child can even feed the animals. There is a fun painting activity too.
